Mångata is a Swedish word for the road-like reflection the moon casts on water. As an emerging professional in the conservation field, it's safe to say I have no idea what I'm doing; comparing my future to a shimmering, ephemeral path along the water's turbulent surface seems appropriate.
The bio: I graduated from Virginia Tech (Go Hokies!) in 2015 with a degree in wildlife conservation, some of the best friends and mentors a girl could ask for, and a determination to make the world a better place. A month later, I shipped off to Kenya to research spotted hyenas with the Michigan State University Mara Hyena Project for one of the best years of my life; check out my posts from 2015-2016 for cute hyena photos and hilarious adventures.
Since coming home, I did some policy work in Maryland and chased some shorebirds on a boat in North Dakota. Now, I'm a master's candidate at American University in Washington, D.C. working towards a degree in global environmental policy. I'm looking to merge my background in wildlife science with a strong foundation in policy to ultimately work in international wildlife policy.
Some favorites: books! (go read The Book Thief if you haven't yet), otters, Parks & Rec, dance and theatre, the ocean, traveling, taking photos, scuba diving, movie scores, and Chacos.
While my path forward is constantly evolving, life continues to surprise me with moments of spontaneity, creativity, and inspiration in the most unlikely places. This blog is a way to stay in touch with family and friends along the way, and I'm so glad you stopped by! Here's to new adventures with great people!
P.S. All views and opinions are my own!
